Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
